A Lhee is a winged dog-like creature from the Spelljammer campaign setting.[1]

Overview[]

Lhee are mischievous winged canines who spend their time racing comets, eating, chasing spelljammers, eating, and annoying sailors. And eating.[1]

Description[]

There are three types of lhee, namely the lesser, common and greater lhee. They all share certain physical characteristics, including a pair of dexterous humanoid hands instead of front paws, and a pair of great, snowy-white dove-like wings mounted just behind their shoulder blades. All lhee speak a language of yaps, growls, and woofs, and can also communicate with blink dogs.

The three types of lhee resemble different breeds of dogs: lesser lhee resemble dachshunds, chihuahuas, and miniature poodles; common lhee look like pit bull terriers, doberman pinschers, and rottweilers; while greater lhee resemble great danes, st. bernards, and sheepdogs.[1]

Behavior[]

Lhee are the pranksters of wildspace, and are considered more of a nuisance than anything else. Their behavior swings wildly from acting like regular groundling dogs to being irresponsible imps, though they exhibit typical canine behaviour such as a love for chasing felines, and a strong attraction to trees, wizard's staves, ship masts, and the like.[1]

Combat[]

All lhee fight using a bite. They also all have the ability to cast invisibility at will, and audible glamer, dancing lights, blur, and darkness 15-foot radius three times a day each.[1]

Society[]

Lhee have a definite hierarchy, where the larger lhee bully the smaller lhee. A pack of lhee will typically consist of a single type, though not necessarily all of the same breed. Each pack will be led by an alpha which the others follow, if they feel like it. A pack of lhee will typically lair inside caves or hollows on small moons or planetoids.

A mated pair of lhee may have a litter of up to 8 puppies. These puppies have no powers or abilities until they reach adulthood at six months old.

Lhee are difficult to train, though it is possible if the trainer can get a puppy no older than three weeks. Training takes a full year. Trained lhee are sometimes used as watchdogs, but this does not always work, since the dogs have a horrendously limited attention span.[1]

Common lhee[]

Common lhee are the most violent, aggressive, and downright nasty lhee. They enjoy pulling pranks, though their jokes tend to be violent. (“Hey, let's push that torch-wielding halfling through that portal into the phlogiston!”) They tend to be stupid, and the lesser lhee are forever tricking them. Common lhee chew everything they find to small bits; consequently, they have no treasure.[1]

Lesser lhee[]

What the lesser lhee lack in size and ferocity, they make up in brains and mischief. They enjoy pestering spelljamming sailors by pulling little innocent pranks on them. Lesser lhee are the most intelligent lhee and prefer to avoid combat situations if at all possible by using their spell-like abilities. Lesser lhee have some skill at picking pockets, and love to steal little things and commit minor acts of sabotage.[1]

Greater lhee[]

Greater lhee act like big, friendly dogs, and exhibit many traits common to groundling dogs, such as loyalty, frantic displays of happiness at seeing humans, a fierce love of playing, and a gullibility that shocks even the lesser lhee. For instance, a greater lhee will fetch a burning stick tossed into the phlogiston. Like other lhee, greater lhee love to play jokes on spelljamming sailors, though they believe the sailors want them to! Although they are not as aggressive as common lhee, greater lhee are quiet willing fight, since they feel this is part of every dog's life.[1]
