A Jettison is a type of heavy weapon mounted on various spelljamming ships in the Spelljammer campaign setting.[1].

Description[]

A jettison is an anti-personnel weapon, and is designed to launch a cloud of stones, iron spikes, trash and other debris at a target ship in the hope of injuring the crew without damaging the ship itself. Jettisons are also used to lay down a debris field in the hope of damaging or delaying a pursuing ship. A jettison resembles a series of small catapults or stone throwers, and is fixed in position when mounted. Jettisons are often mounted at the rear of a ship (the stern) to deter pursuers. When fired at a ship, the cloud of debris may injure all targets within a particular radius, centered on the point of impact.

Many ships use catapults as temporary jettisons when they need to clear an enemy ship's decks. Any type of catapult can be converted into a jettison of the same size by loading it with small rocks or stone shot instead of a single large rock. A jettison, however, cannot be converted into a catapult.

Jettisons are available for purchase in three size categories: light jettisons, medium jettisons and heavy jettisons. If a heavy jettison is mounted on a ship, it takes up the equivalent cargo space as two large weapons when it is installed.

Magical Jettisons[]

As with standard weapons, a jettison may be enchanted with an enhancement bonus, ranging from +1 to +3. For most enchanted jettisons, the enhancement affects both accuracy and damage, but in about a third, the enchantment enhances the weapon's range.[2]

Below is a list of enchanted jettisons and their relative costs.

Jettison[3][2] +1 +2 +3
Light 4,000 gp 8,000 gp 16,000 gp
Medium 6,000 gp 12,000 gp 24,000 gp
Heavy 8,000 gp 16,000 gp 32,000 gp
